This position will take a leadership role in large, complex Lean Six Sigma initiatives and projects focused on improving productivity and reducing the overall cost of the business, to include process cycle time and the elimination of waste and work in process (WIP) across the site, utilizing Lean tool expertise (5S, Standard Work, SMED, Material flow, etc).

 The Principal Accountabilities/Essential Functions include:
• Lead large scale and complex improvement projects within a site, across sites, Value Centers or management companies and effectively coordinate these projects with Site Leadership, the Six Sigma team and other improvement project teams
• Project leadership includes: identifying opportunities; defining and financially justifying project benefits; negotiating resources; launching project teams; using good project management to manage team activities; leading teams to execute projects with the problem solving methodology; tracking project status and results; anticipating and removing project barriers; and developing team members
• Ensure projects are integrated and aligned with other business activities, coordinate with the appropriate project/process owners to accomplish the project goals
• Provide consultation and direction as a subject matter expert on the application of Lean Six Sigma methods to the Site Leadership Team, Master Black Belt, Black Belts and Champions
• Participate in project reviews and consult on VBLSS projects
• Provide necessary training, coaching and consultation to team members to spread the base of Six Sigma Problem Solving tools and Lean principles and their application in project implementations
• Identify implications of Lean project implementation (synergies and breakdowns)
• Ensure two-way open communication throughout the organization for VBLSS. This includes keeping the Master Black Belt informed of program status and ensuring coordination of activities with other Black Belts, Site Leaders and key stakeholders. Communicate best practices and share learning opportunities across the organization
• Manage the development and maintenance of methods and systems for measuring the degree to which the project goals, objectives and metrics are being met. Provide site leadership and value center Champion with the results and take corrective project action as required to improve on results below targets
• Identify potential Black Belts and recruit team members into the Lean Six Sigma organization

Nature of the role:
The candidate for this position must be self-motivated, high-energy, pro-active, analytical, process driven, with a strong focus on understanding and exceeding the expectations of the customer (whether internal or external).

Under the supervision of the Master Black Belt, and following department, office, and company procedures, the Black Belt is responsible for leading project teams to improve critical business processes and drive financial results. Position should be held a minimum of 24 months before consideration for repatriating into a new role. Responsible for identifying project scopes, developing project plans and business cases, and recruiting/training/leading project team members, tracking/measuring project results, and other essential duties.

Scope of the role:
The Black Belt will assist in the development of site improvement plan based on the principles of Lean and Six Sigma, including manufacturing and transactional processes. Plans will include project and activities to meet savings / cost avoidance targets. The Black Belt will act as coach to trained and certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belts, SMART teams and other improvement teams formed to execute projects and activities. Above all, the Black Belt must fulfill the needs of the company in a manner which is consistent with Xylem’s vision and values.

On top of that IQF and other certifications are certainly recognized by industry.  An exact value is difficult to determine.  One advantage of the IQF is that you can allow potential employers to view your exam status even if you have not completed full certification with projects.</description>
